Kathmandu: Nepal's rebel communist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as 'Prachanda', has once again taken over as the Prime Minister, who had previously served as prime minist
er in 2008 and 2017.

According to the International News Agency, the Congress, the country's largest party with the highest number of seats, could not put forward its candidate for the post of Prime Minister for a fixed period on the offer of the Nepalese President.

Pushpa Kamal Dahl, 68, was named in the draw at an important meeting held at the residence of former Prime Minister Oli to elect the new Prime Minister of the country.


President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Pushpa Kamal Dahl as prime minister under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution. Pushpa is known as Prachanda in political life, and he is also the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal.

Under Nepal's constitution, the president asked any member of the House of Representatives, who has the support of two or more parliamentary parties, to stake a claim to the post of prime minister.

Communist Party chairman Prachanda has the support of 165 members in the 275-member House of Representatives due to the alliance of various political parties and is expected to win the vote of confidence.


Prachanda was a Maoist and fought an armed struggle between 1996 and 2006, out of which he remained underground for 13 years, but under the peace agreement, the Communist Party gave up the armed struggle and came into practical politics.
